New Slideshow Pics on AMCv

I took a new set of pictures for the slideshow on our main page. All the pictures are of the freeware MSFS 2020 Delta Simulations C-17 with the Travis AFB, Spirit of Solano, livery.

MSFS 2020 Freeware C-17

For those of you who have MSFS 2020, and have been waiting for a flyable C-17, a new revision of the Delta Simulations MSFS 2020 C-17 is now available on Flightsim.to. If you already have an earlier version of their C-17, you will need to delete it before you install this new version.
Revision 4.1.5 includes a working autopilot, and a working FMC. The skin and the cockpit have been reworked since the last version I had installed. And, there is a functioning tablet to the left of the pilot. It gives you door control, a manual, a browser, and a settings tab. The FMC appears to be the same one used in the MSFS B747-8. Even so, it is a huge improvement over the previous version, which did not work at all.
I made three short flights last night to figure out how the autopilot panel is configured. The cockpit is based on a newer version of the C-17 Globemaster III, so expect some minor changes in configuration and operation compared to the old Virtavia C-17. The only major system I haven’t tested is ILS. I started a flight from Travis to Andersen earlier today. So, I’ll checkout ILS when I get to Guam.
UPDATE: Wow! Nice! ILS caught the GS with no problem. I did have an issue turning off the AP, but that may have been me. This is a very, very nice plane!
BTW, I took a screenshot in the clouds over the Pacific, and added it to the slideshow above.

Captain Sim C-130

After a couple of short flights, and watching another YouTube video on the C-130, I have changed my mind about the Captain Sim C-130. That video is what really sold me. Yeah, the plane has some limitations, but overall, it is a really nice aircraft. And, it is the first payware military cargo aircraft we have for MSFS 2020. VOR and ILS both work, but sadly there is no GPS. Despite that one serious limitation, VOR should work fine for CONUS flights.
Since this aircraft doesn’t have GPS, or come with an AI navigator, and there are very few VOR stations in the oceans, I have figured out a work-around for long haul transoceanic navigation in MSFS. For lack of a real-world equivalent, I’ll describe it as a Manual GPS technique. I’ll post more on how it works in the Knowledge Base Database.
And, we’ll add air refueling to it’s list of attributes, so you can have unlimited flight range.

C-130 Update

Here is a brief C-130 update.
Captain Sim has no plans to publish a manual. However, you can download a complete, original C-130B manual at AVIALOGS.
Here is what I found out about the mode selector switch on the isle stand:
· BLUE LEFT-LOC: Localizer, tracks inbound and outbound RWY course.
· GYRO PILOT: Only trim and turn dials are active.
· RANGE LOC: VOR autopilot mode.
· AFF: APR approach mode.
To initialize an ILS Landing:
· AFF: ON
· FLT DIR Switch: NORMAL
· Mode Selector Switch: VOR/ILS1
· Constantly adjust the course bar to match the LOC, until you catch the GS.
On the Captain Sim forum, they said they will not add GPS to this aircraft.
I think this aircraft is great if you are really into flying VOR. I'm not; I usually nap while I fly. :)

MSFS C-130 UPDATE

Ok, I downloaded the Captain Sim C-130 this morning, and spent the day messing with it. By the way, this aircraft has only been out for two days, so there isn’t much information available. The aircraft itself is a very early model, so don’t expect a glass cockpit, or a lot of modern systems. It is pricey, $39.95. The audio stinks. No GPS. But, the cockpit modeling is very good. It is not even close to Study Level. Only about half of the switches function. The autopilot does work in Gyro Pilot mode, but that requires constant attention during your flight. There are three other AP modes that light up: Blue Left LOC, Range LOC, and AFF. I'm not sure what those modes are, or if any of them work. Hopefully there will be a near-future update to fill in some of the gaps in functionality.
The best resource I have found, so far, are a couple of good C-130 YouTube videos by a guy named Jonathan Beckett:
